just found an article of peripheral (!) interest to this group.

"The computation of emotion in facial expression using the Jepson &
Richards perception theory" by B.C.J.Britton, in the 12th ann conf of
Cog.  Sci. society, Cambr, MA 1990

He describes a system to interpret human emotion from still images.
