I need to write some code that will detect and warn of old versions of
the AMD AM7990 LANCE chip, particularly very old (1984) Rev A and Rev B 
versions.

Does anyone have any code examples that can do this, or knows of any
chip differences that can be detected from software? We've found that
AppleTalk Phase 2 won't run on Rev A and B chips - a problem to do
with Multicast address recognition. Loopback testing doesn't seem to
show it however (dammit!).
