I expect other people are in the same boat as I am and are having trouble decided which compiler/operating system to use. This seems to be a common thread in the news group. My Basic requirement: I want to develop a window based application in C++ on a 386, 486 machine that uses large amounts of memory with arrays often exceeding 64k bytes in size. I have Zortech 2.0 now and I am thinking of upgrading it so that I can better handle my requirements but ... 1) For an operating system I can't decide on OS/2 and PM or Windows 3.0 and Dos. 2) Which version of Zortech should I purchase ? Are the Dos version and OS/2 version's significantly different ? What does the 32bit version do that the others don't ? 3) If I start my development for Windows 3.0, I should just buy the Ver 2.1 for DOS compiler/professional kit from Zortech, correct ? 4) If I later decided that want to develop for PM and OS/2 instead what would I need to do ? Would it be an expensive upgrade ? Microsoft mentions converters to help port Windows 3.0 code to PM. Do these work with MS C only or will they work with Zortech C++ also ? 5) Am I going to have any trouble developing for Windows 3.0 using Zortech C++ and a DOS extender such as Rational Systems ? 6) Will a DOS extender that works with Zortech allow me easy access to large arrays (80K-2M) under Windows ? I have Zortech Professional Kit 2.0 now and like it very much except for its limitations on program size which are now removed in 2.1 ! I found Zed a little buggy when running in Dos box under Windows but I imagine that is fixed in 2.1. Overall a wonderful product :-) ! Thanks for any feedback.
