You can do things like make illustrations in macdraw, illustrator, or pure postscript and include them. It also has (very nice!) on-screen preview so you don't have to run to the printer while debugging your paper. I've written several papers with it and am basically pleased, given some reservations about TeX itself. Also i noticed that the revised Common Lisp Manual (Steele) (1000+ pages, multiple indices, etc.) was produced with this product.
