Subject: AST-4000 SCSI disk/tape  HELP?

Recently, I was given a supposedly functional AST-4000 disk/tape unit
with a SCSI interface. I have a few questions I hope the net can help
me with:

1) What's the best SCSI adaptor for an AT class machine?
2) Anybody have docs on the AST-4000?
3) Is there any good (that's GOOD) software available for dealing with
   SCSI devices on an AT?
4) Do I now have a very nicely packaged boat anchor?
