Anyone know where I can get a replacement front to the print head along with a few new pins without having to pay a guy $50 to say "Guess we have to order this part" and a month later have them say "Gee, we couldn't get a replacement part... Another $50 please" or they find a print head and say "The cost of the replacement plus labor - about 5 minuets, but we charge a miniumn of 1 hour - is $300" ($50 hour labor and $250 for the head that is reconditioned). If this is the NEC 8023, it uses exactly the same print head as the Imagewriter and C. Itoh printers. About 2 years ago I bought an Imagewriter printhead for my NEC; it cost over $100 at Businessland (an Apple distributer). I installed it myself--it was trivial. I don't think the components of the print head are available separately. You'd probably be lucky to find a complete printhead at this point. Also, I have a C.Itoh 8510 color printer that uses Imagewritter ribbons. (just like the NEC one above ;-)) Does anyone know who makes the color ribbons for this guy? Imagewriter II ribbons don't work :-(. You could always try moving the head from your C.Itoh to your NEC... Given the price of the printhead vs. the price of a new and better printer, I'd suggest that you save your money.
