Message-ID: <2525@anaxagoras.ils.nwu.edu> Date: 11 Nov 90 01:37:53 GMT Sender: news@anaxagoras.ils.nwu.edu Reply-To: jones@ils.nwu.edu (Eric Jones) Lines: 29 I would like to use an ST to run a more or less complete version of gnu emacs in a Unix-like environment with multi-tasking, (I hear that MiNT provides this kind of environment). However, I currently own only a basic 1040 ST and no hard disk, which is almost certainly insufficient to this task. Therefore, I'm considering replacing my ST with an STe with 2 or 4 megabytes of memory and a hard disk. However, I am not sure that all of my information is correct. Some questions: ** Is gnu emacs in fact available for the ST? The full distribution, or some restricted subset of it? ** Is any additional software needed to run it, e.g. Minix? To build it? Does gnu emacs run under MiNT? ** How much main memory is needed? ** How much disk space does the distribution take up? ** Does it run acceptably fast? (A related question: What are the CPU specs for the STe?) On another front, I have some questions about price: ** What is fair market price for my old 1040 ST, (mono, 1 meg, single floppy drive)? ** What is a reasonable price for an STe, used, mono, with a hard disk and 2 or 4 meg of memory? I would greatly appreciate answers to any of these questions. Please reply by email to jones@ils.nwu.edu . Thanks, Eric Jones.
