Configuration: Atari: Mega ST4, BioNet 100 II - LAN interface, SM124 monitor Hosts: HP9000/3xx systems The software is reliable, the performance fast/acceptable (don't compare it with a SPARCstation). Problems: Sometimes we do have problems with our LAN (campus net). If we have a lot of garbage on the net, the system becomes instable ( n bombs, reset required). But this happens only arround 5 or 6 times a year. Remarks: The Atari side offers only TFTP (trivial ftp, UDP based), but you can use FTP (reliable transfer) if you start file transfer on the host. The transfer rate (filetransfer) is growing from relase to relase. Now: 10-20 kByte/s. We expect further improvement, because we know, that transfer rates above 50 kBytes/s are possible. We reached this rate using the tcp/ip software (ftp) of BIODATA GmbH (the vendor of the interface card). BIODATA offers also xwindow software, but I don't know anything about prices, performance etc. Herbert Almus
