Keywords: scsi hard drive Message-ID: <554@van-bc.wimsey.bc.ca> Date: 24 Nov 90 04:12:29 GMT Organization: USENET Public Access, Vancouver, B.C., Canada Lines: 16 I have seen many postings regarding the use of WREN and MAXTOR SCSI drives on the Next. I have a Micropolis 1588 SCSI hard drive. It is a 760MB (unformatted) drive with 64K cache. It is quite similar to the Maxtor drive shipped with 660MB cubes. But I find it to be quieter and faster even though the average access times are the same, at 16ms. When installing the drive, Rob Lin and I used the Maxtor's entry in /etc/disktab as a template and replaced appropriate parameters as we see fit. The drive has performed flawlessly since installation. Due to my limited knowledge of SCSI drives and /etc/disktab parameters, I don't think the performance of my Microplis drive is fully optimized. Therefore, I am very interested in communicating with other cube users who have Micropolis drives ... or any SCSI harddrive guru. :-) Joe (jchin@van-bc.wimsey.bc.ca)
