I am really more oriented to PC's, but I run a Prime 9955 II. I have recently led a five-manager team in a six month (whew!) CAD/solid modelling evaluation. We have selected PRO/Engineer as our solution, and will most likely be running on a Sparcstation platform by December..... I am currently developing the Capital Expense Request to purchase the equipment this month... I have used an old Sun (3/80 ??? I think) to do solid modelling at the University of BUffalo, and AM familiar with the HARDWARE. My problem is UNIX...I need advice, as follows; 1) What software should I have ( what do YOU users find essential). I will be mostly doing programming, databasing, CAD, and Analysis. 2) What Telecom package is best. I love PCPLUS for the PC, what is comparable for Sun's. 3) What editors are good, I like MicrEmacs for the PC 4) What is best Word processor, I like MS Word 5 on PC. Please give me your opinion....the more responses the better! Thank you for your valuable advice... Shawn E.
