My thanks to all who explained why I had difficulty installing TeX
recently.  On the tape there was a module compiled on a Sun 3, while
I was installing on a Sun 4.  I ran 'make veryclean' and started over.

I don't know where the offending window.a came from....I thought I
had an original installation tape.

Thanks to everyone who responded---I don't know if I managed to send
direct replies.
