I've tried to install two public domain getty programs
on an SCO UNIX 3.2 system.  Both programs have the
same problem - they are unable to read from the
tty port.  The programs send a modem init string
to the modem and wait for a response, which it
never receives.  (The programs will create a log file
to report errors.  They always timeout waiting for
a response from the modem.)

I've checked:
	tty permissions
	"AT" init state to be sure the modem will send a response
	getty owner and group

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?  Thank you.
