Which causes some 'notes' to sometimes gag on the article ID. 
Definitely
a notes defect; but I guess it's one way to cut down on the flaming
:-).

Just to confuse things, we use C news but have outside posters that
generate
their own ids: xrn, nn and notes (rn? what's that??).
