Examples I already am aware of are the Micromouse contests and the computer chess tournaments. I also recently read in comp.robotics of a contest planned for flying robots. I have heard that MIT has an annual "king-of-the- hill" contest. Please reply via mail and I will summarize if there is sufficient interest.
