It always popped, but recently it developed the blanking problem. When my monitor blanks out, it stays blank. Sometimes I can get it to recover by tapping the side of the monitor. Othertimes, I have to turn it off for a couple of hours. THINGS I HAVE TRIED: I tried cleaning it, but it was not very dusty because I keep it covered. What area should I concentrate on cleaning? I opened it up and looked for cold solder joints. I found one potential bad solder joint, but it did not fix the problem. There is a large PC board on the bottom that is covered by a shield plate. I have not removed this plate to look for bad solder joints or dust. Anyone ever hear of this shield plate shorting out the monitor, there is not much clearance between the PC board, the ?plastic insulator? and the shield plate. SPECULATION: Is there a design flaw in the monitor? Any info would be greatly appreciated. -- Space Telescope Science Institute, Baltimore, MD 21218 Mark ARPA: kyp@stsci.edu BITNET: kyp@stsci SPAN: STOSC::kyp Kyprianou UUCP: {arizona, decvax, hao}!noao!stsci!kyp
