Whenever I turned my computer on, no matter how many bit planes there are, there was always one color register that would flicker all different colors. When the drive was accessed, it got worse. When compiling source code, it went away. I also started getting distorted raster lines that took up half the screen. I took it to the repair shop, and was told it only needed to be cleaned. I have not had the problem again (since about three weeks, although it had started about two months earlier). I noticed that once the computer warmed up, it went away, so I assumed that the chips were heating up. Well, no more problems, and it cost me $30 (and I am glad it only cost $30). :)
