I had the same experience with a DQC cable. I now keep
a spare one around.

They've been reasonably "instantaneous" otherwise.

About the serial cable: If that's the 1-to-3 splitter,
did you also get hit with near tripling of the price?
The thing now costs $325. Seems excessive to me.
