One software that can possibly be used is 3-D Graph. Contour plotting can be carried out by choosing the top-view option. But the result is not really a CONTOUR plot. Another disadvantage of such softwares is that they run into trouble (or become extremely slow) when one tries to plot a huge data file. That is the reason I prefer using things in mainframe. Advantage of 3-D Graph is that it plots everything. There is also a program called ContourPlot that can be FTPed from somewhere, but I don't remember where it is now because I don't use it.
