Message-ID: <1990Nov21.190937.27248@midway.uchicago.edu> Date: 21 Nov 90 18:04:57 GMT Sender: news@midway.uchicago.edu (News Administrator) Organization: University of Chicago Graduate School of Business Lines: 26 ------ Saw an article in the New York Times today discussing wireless networking, and saying that Apple was petitioning the FCC to clear some radio band space for this purpose. The article said that there were two basic ways people are going about wireless networking: high-freqency radio waves and microwaves. I also saw an article in MacWeek that said that Apple was working together with Motorola on wireless networking. In the NYT article it said that Motorola was concentrating on microwave transmissions, and that some people were concerned about possible health effects. The microwave power was low, but I'd be concerned about having microwaves beaming around the office instead of localtalk cables. Well, my guess is that Apple will be doing wireless networking at some point. That's cool, but I have mixed feelings about the emissions that might be involved.
