Does anyone have a GUARANTEED public domain compress program which will
compress GRAYSCALE image files on a Unix system.  I would like a program
which does NOT use the same algorithm as the compress program which is
distributed with Unix (Lempel-Ziv coding algorithm).  

I would preferable I would like a compress program which utilizes the
G4compression algorithm written in C.  However any program written in C
which will compress GRAYSCALE images will do.
