Trying an 8mm  Megatape drive with Pertec interface recently, we could
read only 26 kbytes/sec (reading 32 kbytes record on a Pyramid MIS-12).

What kind of throughput do you get from your 8mm drive?  Are SCSI tape
drives different than those with Pertec interface?
