All word processors have to save not only the text of your document, but also information on formatting, the printer that you have selected etc. etc. In WfW this is saved at the beginning and end of the text. WfW also has a fast save mode in which if you for example add a paragraph in the middle of the document, the new paragraph and instructions on where it goes are appended to the document.
