I am unable to print from xmail.  I get error messages such as

Unknown command: "|"

and if I define printmail in .mailrc as:
set printmail="prnt -dest rich-qms -"

which sends stdin to the printer called rich-qms

I get error messages like:

No file specified.
& Unknown command: "screen"

Any ideas?  Or does anyone know how to reach the author?
