This raised a storm of controversy, and got national attention. Kathy Cornhell, president of Austin NOW, was quoted. She pointed out that this was not only an insult to women--that men are very often the victims of rape. In all of the coverage I saw of this remark (and there was tons of it) she was the *only* person to point out that men are also rape victims. And you'll note that the language of the original comment was gender-neutral. But most of the rest of the commentary assumed that rape was only a woman's issue. So I'd say one thing that feminism has done for men here is raise public awareness of men as crime victims. David Throop
