We have two AViiON 300 workstations with - 88000 Motorola CPU - 12 Mbytes RAM - 300 Mbytes Disk running DG/UX 4.30 (a decent implementation of Unix). These are pretty nifty machines, 18 mips isn't bad ! (300 pages TeXed in 2 minutes). Although we have X Windows and all the support libraries, the only compilers available are - GNU C - Green Hills C - Green Hills Pascal and since we program on 286 and 386 machines using JPI Modula-2 for Dos-based machines and Miele Modula-2 for Interactive-Unix machines, a Modula-2 compiler for the AViiON's would be MOST appreciated ! I know of 3 compilers so far. 1) The Edinburgh Portable Compiler -> EPC Modula-2 Unfortunately pretty expensive at $7900 for multi-site licence. Horribly expensive when paid through the weak South African Rand ! 2) Rowly Associates -> Rowley Modula-2 I faxed, but got no reply. (maybe because we're from SA ?) 3) Karlsruhe -> MOCKA Modula-2 I telephoned and faxed. They responded, but they are forced to apply for a export permit before such technology could be given to SA institutions. (the logic escapes me, a state-of-the-art 18 Mips machine, but no compiler allowed) Any other suggestions are most welcome !
