Lines: 47 Hello all, I've got some [simple] questions about how to use amd (Jan-Simon Pendry's AutoMount Daemon): I think I'm trying to do the sort of thing that is simple with a straight mount command: mount a remote file system at a fixed place, except that the local target either already exists, or its parent directory already exists. What we basically need is the same as our /etc/fstab, except that instead of forcing some directories (eg. /usr/man) to come from node 'A', they can come from node 'A', or 'B', or 'C'. I'm not sure if the problem is because I ported amd to our Sony's (and stuffed it?) or because I don't know how to use amd. Say I have an existing /usr directory, and I want to auto-mount a /usr/man directory from another machine. I have tried setting up an amd file for /usr but I can't work out how to tell it to use all existing sub-directories but mount /usr/man, nor can I get the direct filesystem to work for /usr/man (as described on page 14 of JSP's Amd documentation). I have also tried [and failed] a similar set-up except that the directory I'm trying to mount already exists (eg. I have a /usr/man directory but I want to mount over the top of it). I have managed to do some of the examples from JSP's doco (specifically the ones regarding /homes), but I haven't had a lot of luck so far. I would grateful if someone could send me an example config file for a small workstation config similar to ours: 5 x SONY 1750 Workstations, running SonyOS 3.3a (~ SunOS). 3 are disked (260Mb), 2 have 40Mb disks with basic OS only so need to mount things like /usr/local, /usr/man, /usr/staff, etc, although the 'important' stuff of /usr is already there. Many thanks ... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt Atterbury [matt@bacchus.esa.oz] Expert Solutions Australia, Melbourne UUCP: ...!uunet!munnari!matt@bacchus.esa.oz "klaatu barada nikto" or: ...!uunet!murtoa!bacchus.esa.oz!matt "consider this a divorce" ARPA: matt%bacchus.esa.oz.AU@uunet.UU.NET "life? don't talk to me about life!"
