Hopefully someone can shed a little light on the problem. I do multiple level 0 dumps to an Exabyte tape at the beginning of each month. Until just lately everything worked just fine but now I get the following message: SCSI Sense Key 4, hardware error This always occurs during the second dump. The commands I use are: dump 0undsbf 54000 6000 100 /dev/nrrt0 /u0 Dumping 445.23MB on 0.27 tapes dump 0undsbf 54000 6000 100 /dev/nrrt0 /u1 Dumping 273.15MB on 0.17 tapes Once the Sense Key 4 error occurs all other attempts to write to the middle of the tape results in an "Illegal command" error. I've tried to rewind and reposition the tape but in every case I get an "Illegal command" message when I try to do another dump. We are running a Sun 4/280 under Sun OS 4.1 and the version of the Ciprico software is 1.4 dated 08/20/87. The Ciprico controller is a 3513 board and the Exabyte is the only device attached to it. We use Sony P6-120M tapes and it happens even with brand new tapes. Anybody have any ideas?
