SLIP/CSLIP/PPP can be used on PC's that might not be able to handle an ethernet interface, or where there is a cost restraint. Using freeware applications such as KA9Q (Mac/DOS) for SLIP/CSLIP/PPP, or applications software by InterCon and FTP Software Inc., along with SLIP/CSLIP on UNIX systems such as SCO, AIX, AUX, etc.. will allow for inexpensive internetworking of DOS/MAC/UNIX systems utilizing serial line IP. The TELEBIT NetBlazer provides serial ports capable of serial line IP protocols, such as these, as well as an ethernet interface for LAN hook-up. While the NetBlazer is made more specifically for dial-up IP applications using V.32 modems, it can work as a 'star' device for this type of networking. Terminal servers, such as the Xylogics Annex IIe, also fall in this category. =============================================================================== Cerafin E.
