Most of the time, I FTP to the PC/Mac and move about from directory-to-directory, as well as list directories and upload/download files within the FTP shell. I don't know of any PC/Mac applications which would launch on the PC/Mac and output over telnet. X-Windows clients might be the closest you'll get.
