Just a gratuitous suggestion:

Mr. Salz might be able to mollify some of his unadmirers by
posting a monthly or fortnightly summary of the backlog -
what is in the queue and which one he is thinking about,
which have correspondence out to the submitter.

Of course, if I had people talking like that about me, I 
probably wouldn't care too much if they were mollified.
