Tha A500's expansion memory card is completely difefrent, in that it plugs into a slot in the bottom of the A500, and has a pinout that is applicable to that slot only. Basically, anything that will plug into the side expansion slot will work in both machines. Your best bet, if purchasing the 1000, will be either the A590 (if you want a hard drive and expansion memory), or an A1000 specific expansion memory board. I don't know if there are any A500 expansion memory boards that plug into the side expansion slot. >Also, what is this I hear about a graphics mode not available with the >1000? Is this fact or blatant rumour? Will it make a difference with >most software? with any software? Well... depends on what you mean by 'not available'. While it is true that you cannot just buy an CS chip set and plug it in (the pinouts of the older chips and the ner ones is different), you can have the newer chipset if you want to spend the 500 bucks or so to add something like 'The Rejuvenator'. It is a daughterboard that accepts the newer chipset and allows memory expansion. >Finally, will all software created for a 500 work on the 1000? Can't guarantee it all, since not all programs are written properly, but for the most part, yes, they will run on both. -larry -- The only things to survive a nuclear war will be cockroaches and IBM PCs. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | // Larry Phillips | | \X/ lphillips@lpami.wimsey.bc.ca -or- uunet!van-bc!lpami!lphillips | | COMPUSERVE: 76703,4322 -or- 76703.4322@compuserve.com | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
