Norton Utilities gives the following info when run on PCTransporter:

NEC V30 processor with a performance index of 3.7 relative to IBM/XT

The V30 is an 8086 look-alike; I can't explain the difference in speeds.
Also, the PCT has a plug for a math co-processor, if you need one.
