There are calculators from Sharp and Casio that do a lot of these functions for a lot less. As long as you make sure that you don't require all the features of the $300 HP, so that students with less money can still afford something that does what they need, you can probably get away with requiring a calculator. Heck, it won't cost anymore than if you required an extra textbook, considering the price of books nowadays :-(. Tim Smith
