Well there is one obvious solution to this problem, part of your standard delivery of software is X11 R4, if you load this and run the Xserver you use one of several image viewing programs delivered in the XCONTRIB product that you also get for free. If you don't want to run X then I do have a hacked around version of XGIF which will display a gif image using an Environ V (native screen manager) window. A good point to raise here though is the lack of bitplanes on a 120 (5) which very much limits the gif images that you can display.
