Specifically, I want to have the ruler visible by default. check out "Changing the Initial Document Format" in the (hardcopy) User's Reference manual. basically, if you save an arbitrary wn file as 'Stationery.wn' in your home directory (or the WriteNow file package), that will be used to initialize new documents. so: new show rulers save as Stationery.wn and from now on new files should have the ruler visible. (of course, you can use this to do a lot of other stuff -- default headers, initial boilerplate, etc.) -- .mike.
