Personally haven't had kermit cause this problem.  Possible thing to 
check is stty.  Do a "stty -a" and check the rows & columns that stty 
thinks it's supposed to have.  The stty parameters override termcap 
parameters in the TERMCAP shell variable (why I don't know).  This has 
caused me problems in other areas.
