Now, I've tried the following: 1) disabling NEW_TTY_DRIVER just in readline. various oddities result. 2) disabling NEW_TTY_DRIVER in readline.c and jobs.c. ^a is like ^c, and stty erase ^? goes into "stopped (tty output)" 3) setting bsd with TXSETLD where jobs.c sets NDISC. stty erase ^? stops as above, plus things like vi which IBM ships dependent on the POSIX line discipline don't work. 4) setting M_OS to SYSV, fails to compile due to missing include files. If someone out there has a working bash, I sure wish they'd post diffs. -- Benson I. Margulies
