Hi Lee,

In a general sense the term 'hearing impaired' refers to anyone with
any type of hearing loss.  It is more of a cultural attitude or
outlook for choice of terminology in the use of 'deaf' or 'hard of
hearing'.  (And I really don't care for either label.)

You could describe me as being 'profoundly deaf', from the clinical
description, and hard of hearing in the cultural outlook.  I wear
one hearing aid now and only get a response at 97db at 2000 Hz and
the rest is 100 - 110 db loss range.  For the other ear there is
nothing or almost no response at 110db at any frequency.

There can be significant jumps in the amount of loss.  It can be
induced from the use of a hearing aid with too much power and/or
with the volume control set too high as well as from a medical
condition (medication, cold, high fever, etc.).

Why not have your daughter join us here in SilentTalk?  She could
ask us any question(s) that comes to mind.

Also, why not join SHHH (Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, Inc.)?
They produce a bimonthly journal.
