Scheduled time for "Mid-deck activities: SAREX" is 6:04 p.m. PST on Thursday, December 6th. Early reports are that Ron successfully talked to his dad yesterday via a direct contact, but there were problems this morning with the more complicated linkup between a couple of U.S. schools and the shuttle via a ground relay station in Brazil. Cross fingers that everything gets straightened out in time for Tuesday's scheduled school contacts. (They're going to try to reschedule the schools that missed out this morning.) Also, more than 200 hams have made contact with the robot packet-radio system. I watched at 2:20 a.m. local time this morning as our own netperson Mike Chepponis, K3MC, became contact #116. Ron is in his sleep period now but will be starting up the robot again this evening.
