I am looking for examples of non-trained bitmap image recognition/OCR 
software.  My application will need to recognize a limited 
( < 20 ), set of symbols.  Proper orientation will be guaranteed,
however I need to be able to handle skewing and thinning.  I prefer
source examples in 'C' or Fortran, but I will be grateful for any help.

	Also, if anybody can recommend any good books, or has any experience
