You'd use it for menus, mouse pointer, and overlays. This is what most videoboards for the Mac feature. A framebuffer doesn't necessarily have to be passive...they aren't on Suns, Apollos, etc. With the TMS34020, very fast interaction is possible. The resolution is another question. The 1024x512 could have been a typo, but I'd doubt it. Since it IS dual framebuffer, the two put together would equal 1024 x 1024...definately creative advertising.
