Keywords: Norton, Cache, NCACHE Message-ID: <1990Dec8.165948.22387@sun1.ruf.uni-freiburg.de> Date: 8 Dec 90 16:59:48 GMT Reply-To: HAKL@ibm.ruf.uni-freiburg.de Distribution: comp Organization: Rechenzentrum der Universitaet Freiburg, Deutschland Lines: 26 I'm using NCACHE-F on an 286 AT with 384k extended memory, two hard disks with 2 partitions each and 2 disk drives: a 5 1/4" 1.2M and a 3 1/2" 1.44 M drive. Everything works fine on the hard disk but goes wrong on both floppies: When enabling intelligent write the computer doesn't copy to floppy disk exactly what I want but scambles some sectors of big files. In fact it seems to happen only when: - the file is bigger than the cache-memory: 384k and - I access the file before it actually has been written The question, that now arises, is: Is it a feature or is it a bug? Does anybody have similar problems and/or know how to solve it? Is there already an error corrected version and where can I get it? I got my version of Norton Utilities 5.0 yestereday from a local computer shop as an upgrade from version 4.5. The filesize and date of my copy of NCACHE-F.EXE is: 49194 9-25-90 5:00p Klaus -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Klaus Hartnegg, Kleist-Str. 7, D-7835 Teningen, Tel 07641/48652 BITNET : HAKL@DFRRUF1 Internet : HAKL@ibm.ruf.uni-freiburg.de
