Since the whole toolkit is "spaghettied" together, even if you need just 3 widgets, you end up compiling about 70% of the Motif code. You sure can spare by avoiding few leaf widgets, such as file selection. But I doubt it's worth the effort - munging the makefiles, finding out what ios needed and what not. I believe that taking the whole thing is much easier, and then let ld load only what is "needed".
