Well, Steve, your problem with your rechargeable battery is not a defective one, it is from not using it. If you let a rechargeable battery sit up for a long period of time like a year, it will not take a charge any more. They have to be used to stay in shape. You might try charging it up, and turning your recorder on and letting it run until it won't run anymore. Don't forget to unplug it when it is running. Leave it on for at least 24 hours, and then recharge it again, and run it down again. Maybe after this, it will take a charge if you are lucky. Btw you can buy a new battery for it.
