I once was offered the loan of a good introductory neural
networks book by Wasserman, but then the offer was declined 
(long story).  Unfortunately, I thought I would get to borrow 
the book and didn't copy down the specifics.  I'm sure he's
written more than one book....  If someone could point me
to the title and or other info on his introductory book, I'd
appreciate it.
