Lines: 46 (This message already appeared in comp.sys.ncr. Maybe the database specialists can provide me with additional info ? ) We have a NCR Tower 650 with two 380 MB SCSI drives running the following software: - Unix Rel 02.01.01 - Oracle v5 We are planning to do an upgrade to: - Unix Rel 03.00.00 - Oracle v6.0/TPS We have a rather big application existing of: - Data Entry (Oracle SQL*Forms) - Batch jobs (mostly Oracle Pro*C programs) If we decide to do the upgrade, we will need to put a lot of effort in changing our existing application software. Now the big questions: - Is it worth the effort? - What are the biggest advantages in the Unix upgrade (I heard something about Fast File System, is it really fast :-)? ) ? - Is Oracle v6 stable ( bugs, problems, ...) ? - Is the new language tool PL/SQL interesting ? - Any other tips and tricks (AOTT) ? Some slightly related questions: - Does there exist an ANSI C compiler for Tower 650 with Unix Rel3 ? If so, did anyone use it with Pro*C ? - Does there exist a C++ compiler ? Problems? Did anyone use it with Pro*C ? - Hardware: Can we still fit a third SCSI disk in the Tower/650 cabinet? Or can we upgrade one of the disks to a bigger one ? You see, a lot of questions. Even if you now only an answer to one questions, please e-mail it to me. I will keep a summary and post it to this newsgroup.
