It choked because ordinary users don't have write permission to /usr/mail. I was tempted to make movemail setuid to root because my system doesn't need to be secure but I decided I should find out how it's really supposed to be done. I remember the "Cuckoo's Nest" controversy and I remember it being said that movemail is not supposed to be setuid root but I don't remember anyone spelling out exactly how it should be installed.
