Our PC/TCP can use host tables, domain name servers and IEN-116 name servers, but I'm not sure how common that is. I've heard some packages require particular name servers, but only using hosts files seems unduly restrictive. It's worth checking your software's configuration information, to see if there is an option you are not using, or posting again with information about who's TCP/IP you have.
