For example, the UCLA CS Department has all its dialup lines connected to a Cisco server (similar to the Encore Annex) -- but we've set it up so that you can only log in to UCLA CS Department machines from it. If you try connecting to a non-UCLA machine from our Cisco box, you'll get a "connection not permitted" message. In fact, it was my understanding that owners of dialup-line servers on the Internet were expected/required to restrict them to access local hosts only, to impede "hacker" activity. (Does anyone else on the Name- droppers list have more specific info on this?)
