to fix the $000000 trashing problem, go to your HD toolbox and select
the "partition drive" option. then go to advanced options and click on
update filesystem. You will get  a requester that says something like
FastFileSystem version 0  (I don't recall this exacly... it's been a 
while since I've done this). Anyway, change that 0 to 1 and then save the
changes. This will get rid of any problems that you might have been 
having. This fix was suggested to me here on the net a few months back,
and ever since I've done it, I haven't had any problems what so ever.
